The rhythm of the day: why young children love routine

A predictable day brings the child calm and means fewer arguments at home.

Children aged 3 to 6 cannot read a clock yet, but they sense the order of things very well. When they know what comes next, they feel safe and handle changes more easily.

The same order every day

You don't need a schedule down to the minute. It is enough for the order to stay the same: play, a snack, a walk, dinner, bath, a story.

A picture schedule

Make pictures with your child for each part of the day and put them in order on the wall. Your child can “read” the schedule alone and see what comes next.

Give a heads-up before changes

“After one more tower, it's bath time.” A short heads-up works better than a sudden “Come on, right now!”.

A calm evening

Keep the last hour before bed screen-free, with quiet play or a book. The same story or song every night is a sign that bedtime is coming.

Flexible, not chaotic

Trips, guests or illness will disrupt the routine, and that is normal. Return to it as soon as you can.

At the center, the day also has a clear rhythm: fine motor play, lunch, books, a snack, preschool curriculum activities and outdoor play. See the schedule hour by hour.
